During our recent vacation in western Washington, my partner and I stayed at Comfort Suites Burlington Washington. We checked in with my service dog for a seven-night stay, and upon initial check-in, we informed the receptionist Caleb that we had a service animal with us. We filled out the necessary paperwork, and Caleb told us that there would be no pet fee charged since our dog was a service animal, as expected. However, upon entering the lobby after gathering our belongings, our dog barked, and Caleb immediately accused us of lying and scamming the hotel, stating that service animals do not bark. He demanded proof that our dog was a service animal, which is not required by Federal or State law. We tried to explain this to him, but he insisted that he knew the law better than we did and called us liars and scammers. He even illegally charged us a pet fee after we had already checked in. The situation only got worse from there. Each evening when we returned to the hotel lobby after our outings, Caleb would give us evil stares, laugh and point fingers at us. We felt harassed, bullied, and our civil rights were being violated by his behavior. On the day of our checkout, we discovered that one of our car tires was flat. We had gone off-road in the National Forests, so we changed to the spare tire and didn't think much about it. However, upon returning home, we had the tire repaired and found out that it had been slashed with what the tire guy thought was a box cutter.
